Basketball

The Western Hills Athletic Club is offering a recreational basketball in the Fall of 2011! The program will be open to boys and girls who are members of WHAC.

Want the kids to have an activity, but they aren't into dedicating their life to a sport at the age of 8? Looking for a place for them to play with their friends in an organized activity? Do they like playing at the pool but swimming year round doesn't really interest them? Need the kids to burn off some energy before they do homework and go to bed? Sign them up for basketball!

This is a program that will build fundamental basketball skills in the kids, and give them tools to use either later on in a more competive basketball environment, and/or make them better well rounded athletes and give them abilities to help them in other sports later.

      This basketball program will:

  • Increases hand eye coordination
  • Increases cardiovascular endurance
  • builds discipline and teamwork
  • Help develop skills applicable to other sports
  • Unlocks athletic potential

We plan to offer a group session again in spring 2012. Until then, Coach Craig is available for private and semi-private lessons. You can contact Craig at gpxfactor0@yahoo.com. Lesson rates are available in the registration form below.

Spring 2012 schedule TBD

Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Fees

$40 for the group program.

The program is only scheduled to go through the end of October at this time. With interest, and weather permitting, the program may continue past October. There is also the possibility that a team may be formed to compete in a league at WAYA. If successful, we would look for the program to return in the spring as the weather permits.

About the coach:

Craig Kinney has four years of coaching experience,  the last two with the Austin Wildcats, a select basketball program in Austin, working with kids ages 6 - 16. In doing so, he has coached WHAC members in the WAYA basketball league. Craig was an All South Texas selection when he played basketball for Gregory - Portland High School. He is a recent graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. Craig  has worked for WHAC for the past three years, two of them as a Head Lifeguard.
